Termination of the circuit-switched data communication service for au mobile phones

KDDI and Okinawa Cellular Telephone Company will terminate the circuit-switched data communication service along with the completion of the 800MHz frequency band reorganization. As for the specific date to terminate the service, we will inform you around the end of FY 2010.
The circuit-switched data communication service has been provided and used for ISP connection and FAX communications since 1999 when the CDMA mode was introduced. However, CDMA 1X (with the maximum data communication speed of 144kbps) provided since April 2002 and CDMA 1X WIN (with the maximum data communication speed of 2. 4Mbps) provided since November 2003 enable most users to enjoy our high-speed packet data communication service now. Accordingly, models released in autumn 2005 and afterwards are not equipped with the circuit-switched data communication function.

  • * Circuit-switched approach: A communication method in which a circuit for voice calls is occupied during data communication. The circuit usage efficiency is inferior to the packet-switched approach which divides data into packets and transmits the data without occupying a circuit.
