Packet transmission

Packet transmission

  1. Packet transmission charges are charged on the basis of the quantity of data packets transmitted (one packet = 128 bytes). Therefore, as in the case of accessing a website with images, transmitting/receiving E-mail with an attached file, and downloading data, the larger the volume of data transmitted is, the more expensive the transmission charges become. If the transmission charges become excessively expensive, there may be some cases in which the line will be temporarily suspended.
  2. As Internet use including viewing of websites, etc., can cause expensive packet transmission charges in a short period of time, it is highly recommended that customers sign up for packet transmission discount services such as "IS Flat" and "LTE Flat". Note that all discount services apply only to use in Japan.
  3. Even when data is not received properly due to reception conditions or content of data, packet transmission charges may still be charged.
  4. Because packets are transmitted on a "best effort" basis, transmission rates fluctuate depending on the congestion level of the line used.
  5. With a model compatible with "WIN Single-Teigaku WiMAX" or "WIN Single-Teigaku," a smartphone, specific models such as PHOTO-U, or a model with the maximum limit set for PC data communication payment, the transmission rate will be automatically slowed down depending on the congestion level of the line used if a huge volume of data is transmitted as with video file attachments or file downloads, or if data is transmitted continuously as with streaming, video playback, etc., in order to prevent an excessive load from being placed on the network. In such cases, please be aware that there may be occurrences in which it takes time for transmission to be completed, video doesn't move smoothly, etc.
  6. In order to maintain quality of service and protect equipment, cutoff after being continuously connected for a certain period (24 hours or more), or to port restriction depending on network conditions.
  7. For LTE compatible smartphones, tablets, and LTE Flat for DATA (m), if the total amount of communications of the month exceeds the data quantity for that month, the maximum communication speed until the end of that month will be limited to 128 kbps. The communication speed constraint will be removed on the first day of the following month.
  8. If the total amount of WiMAX 2+ communications and 4G LTE communications with a WiMAX 2+ router exceeds 7GB in a month, the maximum communication speed until the end of that month will be restricted to 128 kbps. The communication speed restriction will be removed on the first day of the following month.
  9. For a "+WiMAX" equipped smartphone and DATA08, if the transmission volume exceeds 3GB during the same month, the transmission velocity using 3G transmission will be limited to the maximum velocity of 128kbps until the end of the month (Until September 2012, this limitation will not be applied if the velocity exceeds 5GB).Restriction on transmission rates will be terminated on the first day of the next month on a first-come, first-served basis.
  10. Packet transmission using IS01 is not possible in the 144 kbps maximum reception rate area. Refer to the 3G icon to determine if use is possible or not.
  11. Smartphones are constantly connected to the Internet and may upload/download information automatically under application control, which can result in high packet transmission charges. Discount services for packet transmission, such as IS NET Course, IS Flat, LTE NET, LTE Flat, and Flat-rate Data are strongly recommended.

Internet connection services

  1. When using Internet connection services with a mobile phone or smartphone alone, it is necessary to sign up for EZ WIN Course, IS NET Course, au.NET, LTE NET, or LTE NET for DATA. It is also necessary to use a model compatible with the services in question. For IS02 and E30HT only, it is possible to connect to the Internet using a provider that supports PacketWIN.
For details about PHOTO-U, PHOTO-U TV, and ANSHIN GPS, refer to the page of each device.

  2. For WIN, when using Internet connection services with a smartphone alone without applying for the IS NET course, or for Wi-Fi/USB tethering on a +WiMAX equipped smartphone, or when using Internet connection services with a smartphone alone without applying for the IS NET course, or for Wi-Fi/USB tethering or SMS (i) on a +WiMAX equipped smartphone (ISW13HT, ISW16SH, ISW13F, URBANOPROGRESSO, ISW11SC, ISW11F, ISW11K, ISW11M, ISW12HT, ISW11HT) via IS NET, au.NET will be applied, with a monthly charge of ¥500. Wi-Fi/USB/PC usage on the IS02 and E30HT will automatically be charged for au.NET usage at ¥500/month regardless of IS NET application.
  3. WiMAX communication using a + smartphone equipped WiMAX (ISW13HT, ISW16SH, ISW13F, URBANOPROGRESSO, ISW11SC, ISW11F, ISW11K, ISW11M, ISW12HT, ISW11HT) will be charged ¥500/month for +WiMAX use. The monthly +WiMAX charge is waived for the month of cellular phone purchase and the following month. WiMAX packet transmission charges are calculated as stand-alone smartphone packet transmission charges, in the same way as packet transmissions using CDMA 1X WIN.
  4. When customers sign up for the EZ WIN course, they will automatically be signed up for the IS NET course. The IS NET course is applied for months in which packet transmission via an Internet connection using a smartphone alone takes place, and for other months the EZ WIN course is applied, so that there is no doubling up of fixed charges. When customers sign up for or withdraw from IS NET or EZ WIN during months when IS NET is applied, the monthly charge cannot be calculated on a per diem basis.
  5. When data transmission between a computer, PDA or car navigation system and an au mobile phone (PC-connected data transmission) takes place, or connection to the Internet is made using DATA01, DATA02, Wi-Fi WALKER (DATA05, DATA06,DATA08W), DATA07, W07K, W06K, W05K, W04K, the connection will be via au.NET or a PacketWIN compatible provider. Use of a PacketWIN compatible provider may incur separate monthly provider charges and transmission charges. Compatible models and monthly charges differ depending on the provider. Please check with the provider for details.
    • * Smartphones (excluding IS02 and E30HT), PT001, mamorino, and A101K are not compatible with PC-connected data transmission.
  6. If, due to model change, you are using IS NET course and LTE NET during the same month, the basic monthly charge for IS NET course will prevail.

When the customer switches from an EZ WIN mobile phone to a smartphone, or adds a smartphone, withdrawal from EZweb apps and EZweb sites, cancellation of Melody Call, etc., do not take place automatically. Customers are requested to withdraw from or cancel unnecessary fee-based apps and sites in advance. Smartphones supporting au ID, however, can withdraw from such apps and sites by accessing Support Information on the au Portable Web site, using the smartphone browser.
  10. All packet transmissions (3G transmissions) using smartphones take place through connection to the Internet, including website viewing, downloading, application transmission, E-mail/MMS transmission and reception, and packet transmission charges are billed for these transmissions. E-mail reception that is free of charge with the EZ WIN course, including important notification E-mail and Bill on WEB notification E-mail, Hot Info is not free of charge when using a smartphone. Smartphones which do not support EZ WIN E-mail cannot receive important notification E-mail. Smartphones which do support EZ WIN E-mail and are under Plan E Simple/Plan E contracts cannot send or receive EZ WIN E-mail/MMS for free, and must pay packet transmission charges. (The IS NET course is required for the use of EZ WIN E-mail.) Web browsing for a disasterrelated message board for LTE is provided at no cost.
  11. To prevent network congestion, transmission rates are restricted as shown below:
      Criterion Restricted period
