Important Notes

GSM mobile phones, with international roaming function that are not locked to limit carriers, may work with au IC-Cards. Therefore, should you lose or have your mobile phone stolen while abroad, contact us at the inquiry number shown on the back of this guide immediately, and follow the procedures to stop use of the au IC-Card. Calling charges incurred even after loss or theft are charged to the customer.
To protect from unauthorized use by a third party if your phone is lost or stolen, service may be suspended if usage charges reach an excessive amount.
Always turn off the power of your mobile phone when in an aircraft. Mobile phones can adversely affect aircraft instrumentation.
It may be impossible, even within the service area, to use the phone at locations that are difficult for radio waves to reach.
Because the GLOBAL PASSPORT GSM service is provided using the network of a local carrier abroad, there may be some cases in which you cannot make / receive calls, use services, or connect with some phone numbers due to circumstances related to the local carrier, etc.
If you input the wrong PIN repeatedly and the au IC-Card is locked, please contact us at the inquiry number shown on the back of this guide.
In some countries, a short welcoming message from the local carrier (free of charge) may appear on the screen. In this case, please do not dial any phone number shown in the message because it may incur calling charges.
When GLOBAL PASSPORT GSM is used abroad, the network guidance of the local carrier applies.
If you are unable to connect to the number you wish to call, leave some time between the calls rather than redialing immediately.
Regarding number displays when using GLOBAL PASSPORT GSM abroad
When making calls while abroad: generally, the number used for your GLOBAL PASSPORT GSM service is not displayed on the other party’s phone.
When receiving calls while abroad: in some cases, the other party’s number will be displayed.

If a customer inserts an au IC-card into a GSM mobile phone that he or she has obtained (a mobile phone for the GSM system that has global roaming function and is not limited to a specified carrier), he or she may be able to use the service while abroad. However, we do not guarantee its compatibility with GLOBAL PASSPORT GSM or provide support for damaged au IC-card, damaged phones, and the like for phone models other than the GSM mobile phones recommended by au.
GSM mobile phones for overseas use automatically choose one carrier if several carriers are available in the same region. However, there are some models that allow you to choose a carrier. (Please see the instructions provided with the model.)
Support for the recording of memory data by a customer on an au IC-Card using a GSM mobile phone is not provided by au.
You can use the Call Forwarding Service (Unconditional Transfer) abroad, but please see the user manual of your GSM mobile phone as regards the operation method. The Automatic Answering, Voice Mail, and Call Forwarding (No Answer Transfer and Busy Transfer) services are not available.

* When an incoming call is received while outside Japan, Automatic Answering and Call Forwarding (No Answer Transfer and Busy Transfer) services will not be activated in principle. However, Automatic Answering and Call Forwarding services will be activated only when the power of the handset is turned off in a service area.
* Messages recorded with the Answering Service (Voice Mail) before departure and with Voice Mail Service after departure can be heard through the remote control dial function (+81-90-4444-0141: international calling charges to Japan required).

Data or fax communications through circuit switching mode with the phone connected to a personal computer or other device cannot be used at any overseas destination.
GLOBAL PASSPORT GSM is not available to subscribers who use only the Prepaid Service.
If the telephone service is suspended under the Charges Monitoring Service while you are roaming, you can still use GLOBAL PASSPORT GSM abroad, but cannot make domestic calls after returning to Japan. If the telephone service is suspended under the Charges Monitoring Service in Japan, you can still use GLOBAL PASSPORT GSM abroad.

Points Requiring Attention regarding Charges for Making / Receiving Calls Abroad

Charges for calls made in other countries will be added to charges for calls made in Japan, and billed the following month or later. Charges for calls made outside Japan in the same month may be divided and charged in different months.
The discount services and the free calling times available with specific price plans do not apply.
The same calling charges apply to both fixed line phones and mobile phones.
Calling charges under "A Call to Other Countries" may be charged even when you have made domestic calls within the destination country / region depending on the standards set by the local carrier. (There are also some cases in which domestic calling charge rates apply even when you have made international calls to countries other than Japan.)
Calls made between the countries / regions with country code 1 are charged at the rate of domestic calls in the respective country / region.
Calls between Continental China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Macao are charged at the rate of "A Call to Other Countries."
Calling charges are also incurred when calls are received while abroad.
Charges for calls you receive in the destination country / region include international calling charges from Japan to the country / region, so there is no separate charge from other international telephone companies.
Collect, toll-free, credit, and prepaid card calls made abroad use mobile telephone facilities of the country you are in. For this reason, please note that wireless transmission charges set by the local carrier are charged to you every time you make such a call. These charges are charged to you by au as domestic calling charges of the country.
In countries and regions including the U.S. Mainland, Hawaii, and Canada, call charges may be incurred at the time when the call button is pressed. Therefore, please note that call charges may be incurred even if the call is not connected to the receiver.
Using the Information Dial Service abroad incurs a uniform charge of 500 yen / min.

Call Statements

Times shown are based on Japan time, but may differ from actual times.
For calls made / received abroad using GLOBAL PASSPORT GSM, some of the listings for "destination number" and calling times may differ from the actual numbers or times due to the circumstances of the local carrier. If you receive a call, the number of the au phone from which the call was received will be listed under "destination number".
Some countries / regions are integrated into other countries / regions on call detail statements due to the circumstances of local carriers.
