(General coverage area questions)

With what frequencies is the service compatible? |

au-recommended GSM phones for overseas use can be used in Europe and Asia at GSM 900 MHz and GSM 1800 MHz as well as in North and South America, Guam, Saipan and other regions at GSM 1900 MHz. They can be used in all areas covered by GLOBAL PASSPORT GSM.

If I use an au-recommended GSM mobile phone for overseas use, can I use the service in every country and area listed on the website? |

Yes, it can.

Can I use the W-CDMA or CDMA2000 networks abroad? |

au-recommended GSM mobile phones for overseas use do not support third generation network formats such as W-CDMA or CDMA2000 so they cannot be used with these formats. Roaming occurs via the GSM network (second generation).

(Countries providing service)

I have heard that there are a few carriers abroad that provide plastic roaming (card roaming used with insertion of a card) on the CDMA standard. If I insert a card into these IC card-compatible CDMA phones, can I use the service? |

This is not possible. Roaming must be done on the GSM standard.

(GSM area inquiries)

I would like to confirm the specific service areas in certain countries or regions. There is no map provided with the User Guide that came with my phone set, so how do I check these areas? |

GSM roaming is being developed in different areas according to each overseas carrier. We have provided a webpage that allows you to check the service area for each carrier on the Service Area Map page, so we ask that you check this page.

I would like to receive the service area map for my destination. Is this possible? |

We apologize for the inconvenience, but we ask that you check the au webpage for each carrier's service area.
