Charges
(General billing questions)

Q.
Are there any charge plans exclusively for roaming?
A.
No such plans have been arranged.

Q.
Will my overseas usage be billed separately from my monthly bill?
A.
No. These charges will be billed together with your monthly bill from au.

Q.
If I receive calls while in my destination country, will I receive a separate bill for received call charges from an international phone company?
A.
No. The charges for international calls from Japan to your destination country are included in the charges for received calls, so you will not be billed separately by an international phone company.

Q.
Will my calling charges for the month I am overseas definitely be billed to me along with the same month's domestic usage?
A.
This depends on when the accounting data is sent from the overseas carrier. In some cases the overseas usage portion may be billed two or more months later.

Q.
Are charges for GLOBAL PASSPORT usage applicable to free calling time of any of the charge plans?
A.
No, GLOBAL PASSPORT usage is not applicable to any discount services or free calling time.

Q.
Does GLOBAL PASSPORT usage qualify for point accumulation with Club au (au Point Program) ?
A.
Yes, points are accumulated according to each month’s usage charges.

Q.
With the WIN pricing plan, charges are calculated by 30 second units or one minute units. Could I have the overseas usage charges calculated in the same way?
A.
GLOBAL PASSPORT charges are uniformly billed in one minute units.

Q.
When viewing the country coverage list on the website, it appears that there are many cases in which multiple carriers exist in a single country. Are the charges different for each carrier?
A.
No, they are all the same.

Q.
Are calling charges divided into time periods as in Japan?
A.
No, they are not divided into time periods.

Q.
Is consumption tax applied to the overseas usage portion?
A.
No, it is not.

Q.
What are some examples of the Information Dial Service mentioned in the GLOBAL PASSPORT User Guide?
A.
This corresponds to services similar to the Dial Q2 service in Japan (depending on the standards of each local provider).

(Calling charges)

Q.
Are charges different if calling destinations are fixed-line or mobile phones, even if they are domestic calls?
A.
No, the charges are the same.

Q.
I made a call from the U.S. to Canada, so why was I charged for a domestic call?
A.
Calls between countries and regions within the country code 1 are charged as domestic calls.

Q.
Are calls made between China, Hong Kong, Macau, and Taiwan charged as domestic calls?
A.
Calls between these areas require different country codes, so they are charged as calls to countries other than Japan.

Q.
Are emergency calls and other such calls free?
A.
It depends on the accounting systems of the local carriers, so in some cases you may be charged.

Q.
I made a domestic call within a certain country, but for some reason the number I called was charged as a call to a country other than Japan. (Or, I made a call to a country other than Japan, but that number was charged as a domestic call.) Why did this happen?
A.
Depending on the accounting systems of the local carriers in your destination country, there may be some cases in which charges for calls to countries other than Japan may be applied to calls made within the country in which you are staying.

Q.
I was charged for receiving a call even though I did not answer it. Why?
A.
You are also billed for international calling charges from Japan to your destination country. Also, in contrast to Japan, mobile phone service providers in many countries bill customers for received calls.

(Call statement)

Q.
There are some numbers on my call statement that I do not remember calling. Also, the times of the calls seem to be unusual.
A.
Depending on the circumstances of overseas carriers, the display of some destination numbers or calling times may differ from the actual numbers or times.

Q.
Are calling times on the call statement the local times?
A.
These times are displayed in Japan time.

Q.
How will times appear on the call statement if my destination country is observing daylight-saving time?
A.
Time change due to daylight-saving time is not reflected, so calls made during daylight-saving time will not appear in correct Japan time.

Q.
Although I made calls during the corresponding times on my call statement, the destination numbers appear differently than what I actually dialed. Why is this?
A.
In some cases, numbers for connection purposes may be listed before or after the number you dialed, or numbers changed for connection purposes on the local mobile network may be listed.

Q.
If I receive a call while overseas, how will it be listed on my statement?
A.
The number of the au phone from which you received a call will be listed on the call statement under "destination number".

Q.
Even though I didn't go to the U.S., "U.S. or Caribbean Islands" is listed on my call statement as a country in which I used the service. What does this mean?
A.
Usage in the following countries and regions appears as "U.S. or Caribbean Islands" on the statement: United States, Hawaii, Aruba, Antigua and Barbuda, Grenada, Cayman Islands, Jamaica, St. Lucia, Barbados, St. Vincent and the Grenadines. In addition, some other countries' names may be grouped together (ex. use in Saipan > Guam/Saipan).

Q.
I contacted the au Customer Center from abroad, but I was billed for domestic calling charges. Isn't it free?
A.
Because you used the mobile phone circuits (airtime portion) of the destination country's carrier, domestic call charges are incurred.
