Note Please check the following before using a mobile phone abroad.

In case of loss or theft of your mobile phone while overseas
If your "au phone" or "au IC Card " is lost or stolen while overseas, please contact us immediately and take the steps necessary to stop service. Even if your au phone is a type that can only be used within Japan, there is a possibility that the au IC Card inside the phone can be inserted into another phone and used. In such a case, charges incurred will be billed to the au IC Card account.

About setting a PIN Code

If your au phone or au IC Card is lost or stolen, your au IC Card has a special number called a "PIN Code" that helps reduce the risk of unauthorized usage by a third party. We have received reports of various troubles involving unauthorized usage abroad, so we recommend that you set this "PIN Code". For information on how to set your PIN Code, please refer to your au phone’s "Owner’s Manual".

Differences in calling charges in Japan and abroad
Please note that the charge structures and billing methods for calls made while abroad are different than for calls made in Japan, even if the same phone is used in both cases.

[1]  Charges are incurred for incoming calls.
Calling charges are incurred when an incoming call is received while abroad. In addition, transmission charges may be incurred from the instant the "call" button is pushed, depending on the country or region.
[2]  Charges vary by country or region.
Charges for services vary according to the country or region.

[3]  For packet communications, a minimum charge is incurred for each transmission.
Transmission charges may be incurred from the instant the "call" button is pushed, depending on the country or region. In addition, the charge structure is different than that of Japan.
[4]  Toll-free calls may also be billed.
Even collect, toll-free, credit card, prepaid card, or operator-assisted calls may be billed at the domestic call rates of the country because the local carrier’s mobile phone networks are being used.
[5]  Free calling time does not apply.
Calling and packet communications charges incurred while abroad are not covered by the free calling time of discount plans or monthly plans with free calling time.
