This service offers WiMAX network [1],[3] exclusively for wireless data communications.
No need to look for specific access spots, which is required for Wi-Fi access. In the service areas, high-speed access is available anytime even while on the move.

(1) Overwhelming [2] speed! (The max downlink speed of 40Mbps, the max uplink speed of 15.4Mbps [4])[1] Video streaming and download of applications and music are surprisingly smooth with an overwhelming speed [2].
(2) Nationwide service area [5]! The service area covers over 95% of the actual population in cities designated by government ordinance and special wards within Japan [6]. High-speed Internet access is available everywhere in Japan.
(3) Accessible even outside WiMAX coverage area! No worries even if you are outside WiMAX coverage area. You will be automatically switched to 3G which is accessible over a wider area [7].

  • [1] As this service is provided based on the best-effort method, the maximum communication speed is not the actual speed, but the maximum value based on the technical standards. The communication speed may significantly decrease even within the coverage area depending on the communication environment and traffic conditions.

  • [3] WiMAX stands for Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access. This high-speed wireless Internet technology has been standardized based on IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers) 802.16e standard. KDDI provides the WiMAX service, using UQ Communications Inc.'s wireless infrastructure. Check the WiMAX coverage area before purchase.
  • [4] The max uplink speed (15.4Mbps) is scheduled to become available by the end of December 2011. As for DATA01, the max uplink speed is limited to 10Mbps.
  • [5] Cities designated by government ordinance and major cities including prefectural capitals of 47 prefectures within Japan.
  • [6] Calculation of the actual population coverage rate: Area cover population of target area ÷ Population of target area. Cities designated by government ordinance include Tokyo's 23 wards. The population data is based on 2005's national census.
  • [7] 3G is not automatically switched to WiMAX while data transmission. When the transmission method is switched between WiMAX and 3G, data transmission is temporarily suspended.
