Overview

The MNP (Mobile Number Portability) service allows customers to change mobile phone carriers whilst retaining their current phone number.

Some people used to hesitate about switching mobile phone carriers due to all the hassle of having to let their friends know a new phone number. This service enables anyone to freely choose whichever mobile phone carrier they like.

Is the procedure to switch mobile phone carriers through MNP troublesome?

If you make an MNP reservation in advance, either by phone or online, the switchover to au can be completed by simply dropping in to an au shop.
Check out how to apply from the link below.

Notes on using MNP

Once MNP is implemented, the contract with your current mobile phone carrier shall be canceled and you will sign a new contract with a different mobile phone carrier (new contract). Accordingly, please note the following points:

  1. The email address issued by the currently contracted mobile phone carrier will no longer be available.
  2. Services offered by the currently contracted mobile phone carrier (rate plans, discount services, etc.) shall be terminated at the time of the cancellation of the contract.
  3. In some cases, content and electronic money provided by content providers may not be transferred to the new mobile phone.
  4. If you subscribe to discount services such as a yearly contract, additional costs may be incurred with the cancellation of the contract.
  5. A mobile phone handset released by the newly signed-up mobile phone carrier will be required.
  6. Switching from the currently contracted mobile phone carrier to a different carrier through MNP will incur charges. When switching from au to another carrier, MNP reservation and transfer fees of ¥2,100 (including tax) will be required.
  7. MNP is not applicable to services providing data communication only (Single Service).
